Definition: Read Channel


Performs the data encoding and conversions the drive needs to write computer generated information onto a magnetic medium and then read that information back with a high degree of accuracy.

Analogue signals

Signals which come directly from the read/write heads, before digitalization. No analogue signals indicate that data has not been stored on the media, or the data has been removed using a strong magnetic field such as a Degausser.
