To make a copy of a file, group of files, or the entire contents of a hard disk, either for archiving purposes or for safeguarding valuable files from loss should the active copy be damaged or destroyed.

Sometimes while transferring data from a damaged disk, the damaged disk releases the expected amount of raw data but in a seemingly random order. Such a copy is worthless. The problem is due to a physically damaged disk, which causes errors in the location/addressing information.
