Definition: Analogue signals


Signals which come directly from the read/write heads, before digitalization. No analogue signals indicate that data has not been stored on the media, or the data has been removed using a strong magnetic field such as a Degausser.

Off Track

Used when the read/write head is unable to follow the right track. In hard disks this may be a result of a shock (shock damage). In tape context this may be due to mechanical problems with the tape drive.
